Silica Fume
Silica fume is used in ceramic cement to enhance and increase the matrix of the chemistry to strengthen and improve durability, workability and flow. Also aids in the acceleration of curing time.
Price range: $24.95 through $44.95
Silica Fume is an ultra-fine, high-purity amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO₂) powder collected as a by-product of silicon and ferrosilicon alloy production. Its extreme fineness and high surface area make it one of the most effective pozzolanic and reactive additives available for geopolymer and ceramic cement systems.
Function & Benefits
When blended with metakaolin or alkali silicate binders, silica fume significantly improves strength, density, and durability by enhancing the matrix structure and reducing porosity. It also boosts workability, increases flow, and accelerates curing in alkali-activated and ceramic systems.
Recommended Dosage
For ordinary metakaolin / alkali-silicate–based geopolymers:
Use 5–6 % of the binder/cement weight to raise the Si/Al ratio and improve matrix reactivity.
Advantages
- Enhances compressive and flexural strength
- Improves chemical and abrasion resistance
- Reduces permeability and microcracking
- Accelerates curing in ceramic and geopolymer systems
- Contributes to high-density, smooth-surface finishes
Applications
- Geopolymer and ceramic cements
- High-performance mortars and grouts
- Dense refractory and castable ceramics
- Eco-concrete and low-carbon binder systems
